China’s Subway Robots Are Delivering 7-Eleven Orders — World-First in Autonomous Delivery!
In a world-first move, China’s Vanke Group has launched a fleet of autonomous delivery robots that ride the Shenzhen subway to deliver goods to 7-Eleven stores.
These 41 robots — about one metre tall with a sleek, penguin-like design — travel during off-peak hours, navigating lifts, platform gaps, and even train doors with ease. They’ve got LED faces that flash friendly eyes and smiles, and they’ve already turned heads among surprised commuters.
Operated by VX Logistics, part-owned by Shenzhen Metro, the robots replace the traditional trolley-pushing staff — offering a more efficient, automated delivery system. At each station, they exit the train and head straight into the stores to drop off supplies.
This initiative is part of Shenzhen’s broader plan to become a global hub for robotics and AI, with over 1,600 robotics companies already based in the city.
So yes — in Shenzhen, even your convenience store snacks might have arrived on the subway… courtesy of a robot that looks like it’s just stepped out of a sci-fi film.
