Rainbow Robotics Unveils RB-Y1 Upgrades at ICRA 2025
At ICRA 2025, Rainbow Robotics has unveiled two impressive new features for its RB-Y1 humanoid robot: omnidirectional Mecanum wheels and a full software development kit.
The RB-Y1 is no ordinary robot. With two arms offering seven degrees of freedom each, a 6-DoF leg, and a wheeled base, it’s built for serious AI development—and now it glides like a pro with 360-degree movement, perfect for tight lab spaces or showing off at tech expos.
Rainbow’s SDK opens the door for deep integration with components like lidar, IMUs, and grippers, giving researchers and developers a modular, flexible platform for innovation.
Chief Technology Officer Jungwoo Heo says, “This is Your Humanoid, Make it Perfect for Your AI Solution.” In other words, it’s not just a robot—it’s a blank canvas for AI creativity.
Since its debut in March 2024, the RB-Y1 has already made its way into top institutions like MIT and Berkeley—and with Samsung now holding a 35% stake, the company’s ambition to lead the global humanoid market is gaining serious momentum.
