Saronic Raises $600M – The Future of Naval Defense

Saronic Technologies is making big waves—literally and financially. The Austin-based company just raised a massive $600 million in Series C funding, pushing its valuation to $4 billion. That’s four times what it was just seven months ago. Not bad for a company building ships that don’t need captains.

Saronic’s mission? To modernize naval shipbuilding with autonomous surface vehicles—or ASVs—that can extend the Navy’s operational reach, protect sailors, and be produced faster and more affordably. Their latest creation, the Corsair, is their largest ASV to date, proving that the future of maritime defense might just steer itself.

But they’re not stopping there. With this funding, Saronic plans to build ‘Port Alpha,’ a next-gen shipyard designed to scale up autonomous ship production like never before—think WWII shipbuilding speeds, but with 21st-century tech.

Investors like Elad Gil, General Catalyst, and the ever-present Silicon Valley heavyweights are all backing Saronic’s vision to boost America’s maritime strength with smarter, faster shipbuilding.

So, while the idea of robot ships once felt like sci-fi, Saronic’s making it clear: the future of naval defense is already here. And yes, it comes without a captain’s hat.

  • Figure AI Breaks from OpenAI | Promises Unseen Robot Intelligence

Figure AI Breaks from OpenAI | Promises Unseen Robot Intelligence

Big moves in the world of robotics—Figure AI has officially parted ways with OpenAI, claiming they no longer need their tech. Why? Because they say they’ve made a major breakthrough in robot intelligence.

Figure AI was set to use OpenAI’s language models for its humanoid robots, but CEO Brett Adcock now says their in-house AI is advanced enough to go solo. According to him, language models like OpenAI’s are getting smarter—but also more common. So instead of relying on an external partner, Figure AI is betting on its own technology.

He called external AI partnerships ‘cumbersome’ and ‘ultimately irrelevant’ to their success. A bold statement, considering just months ago, Figure and OpenAI were working together on the Figure 02 robot.

But Figure AI isn’t slowing down. They’ve already secured a deal with BMW to use humanoid robots in automotive production—and have a second, undisclosed major U.S. client. With these partnerships, they’re aiming to deploy up to 100,000 robots in the next four years.

Meanwhile, OpenAI has been quietly rebuilding its own robotics team, filing trademarks that hint at future humanoid projects. So while Figure AI is going its own way, the bigger question is—are we about to see an AI robotics showdown?

Figure AI promises to reveal their ‘breakthrough’ within 30 days, calling it something ‘no one has ever seen on a humanoid.’ Whether this is the start of a new robotics era or just another big claim—well, we’ll find out soon enough.
