Uber is investing another $100 million into Chinese autonomous vehicle company WeRide—because nothing says “future of transport” like putting your trust in a car with no driver.
The two companies plan to roll out robotaxi services in 15 cities over the next five years, all outside the U.S. and China. That includes locations like Dubai and Zurich, where WeRide is already making moves—robotaxi service in one, autonomous shuttles in the other.
WeRide handles the autonomous tech, Uber takes care of the fleet and the app. Think of it as Uber doing the hosting, and WeRide bringing the self-driving brains.
According to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, this is one of the biggest partnerships of its kind. And it makes sense—Uber has the global scale and app, WeRide has the robots. Together, they’re turning sci-fi into daily commute.

Amazon’s new robot, Vulcan, is taking warehouse automation to the next level—by adding something surprisingly human: a sense of touch.
Unlike the Kiva robots that bring shelves to humans, Vulcan flips the script. It handles the replenishment side—picking items from bulk and neatly stowing them back onto shelves. What makes it special? Force-sensing technology and AI that let it feel how hard—or gently—it needs to grip each item.
From a heavy textbook to a delicate box of vitamins, Vulcan adjusts its grip accordingly. It’s precise, fast, and can handle about 75% of items in the warehouse—all while helping reduce physical strain on human workers.
As Aaron Parness from Amazon Robotics puts it, “Force is the language of manipulation”—and Vulcan speaks it fluently. It’s already operating in warehouses in Washington and Germany, and paving the way for more robots that don’t just move fast, but move smart.
So while it’s not quite giving high-fives yet, Vulcan is a big step toward robots that can truly handle the physical world with finesse.

PM01 – China’s Humanoid Police Robot Patrols Shenzhen

In Shenzhen, China, a humanoid robot named PM01 has officially joined the police force—or at least, started patrolling alongside it. Standing 4 foot 7 and weighing 88 pounds, this robot isn’t exactly chasing down criminals, but it’s designed to help find lost kids, assist tourists, and keep an eye on public spaces.
Developed by Engine AI, PM01 wears a high-visibility vest, has a 320-degree rotating hip, and understands both Mandarin and Cantonese. It’s equipped with facial recognition, microphones, and can even pull off a forward somersault—though we’re not sure how useful that is on patrol.
Priced at around $14,000, it’s relatively affordable, and there are plans to roll it out beyond policing—into schools, shops, and other public areas.
Public reactions? Mixed. Some say it’s a helpful step forward, others think it’s a bit dystopian. YouTube viewers leaned toward “creepy,” while Reddit was more intrigued—especially after a viral post confirmed it was a real robot, not CGI.

James Bruton – Insane Robot Wheel

James Bruton is back at it again — and this time, he’s built a robotic wheel that not only drives in any direction but also balances itself… even when you try to push it over.
It’s kind of like a unicycle, if the unicycle didn’t need a rider and was designed by a robotics genius with a 3D printer. Most of the parts are custom-printed, including a cleverly engineered main wheel made up of eight smaller wheels, each with dual tires for smooth omnidirectional motion.
At the heart of it all is a system of gears, pulleys, and idlers — 16 bearings in total — making the transitions ultra-smooth and responsive. The frame? Aluminium extrusion. The brain? A custom control system that automatically adjusts to stay upright and roll back to its original position after being nudged.
James has even added remote control to steer it, and this whole build is actually a warm-up for an even bigger project — a rideable robot with perpendicular omni-wheels. If this is the test run, we can’t wait to see the main act.
