Humanoid Robots Play Football in China – Fully Autonomous AI Match Stuns Fans!

China’s men’s soccer team might not be grabbing headlines these days—but their humanoid counterparts certainly are.

In Beijing, four teams of AI-powered humanoid robots faced off in the country’s first fully autonomous 3-on-3 football match. No coaches, no remote control—just artificial intelligence doing all the thinking, passing, and, occasionally, falling over.

Equipped with visual sensors, the robots tracked the ball, navigated the field, and even got themselves back on their feet—most of the time. A few needed stretcher support, adding a surprisingly human touch to the game.

This robotic match was more than just entertainment—it was a test bed for cutting-edge AI and hardware integration, with each university team programming their own strategies.

Tsinghua University took the trophy, beating the China Agricultural University 5–3. Not bad, considering some human teams can’t even get past 0–0.

Organisers say this is just the beginning, with the goal of eventually having robots and humans play together—safely, of course.

At this rate, China’s best shot at World Cup glory might just come with a lithium-ion battery pack.

UK’s First Bricklaying Robot Arrives – Can ‘Walter’ Solve the Construction Crisis?

A groundbreaking moment for UK construction has arrived – quite literally – with the debut of Walter, a wall-laying robot now hard at work in Durham.

Developed in the Czech Republic and brought over by JT Lifestyle Homes, Walter – or WLTR – is designed to build smarter, faster, safer, and greener. He can lay up to 200 square metres of bricks a day and construct walls up to 3.5 metres high without scaffolding. Rain, wind, or shine – Walter keeps going.

With over 35,000 vacancies in the construction industry and an ageing workforce, it’s clear we need new solutions. Walter doesn’t replace people – he supports them, creating opportunities for skilled operators and improving overall build quality with precision bricklaying.

This cutting-edge robot is currently building 27 homes in Durham, with more projects to follow. JT Lifestyle Homes is combining innovation with accessibility, offering these houses under a rent-to-buy scheme to help first-time buyers take that crucial step.

To learn more, visit jtlh.co.uk — the future of construction has officially arrived.

World’s First Jetpack-Powered Humanoid Robot Takes Flight – iRonCub MK3 Breakthrough!

World’s First Jetpack-Powered Humanoid Robot Takes Flight – iRonCub MK3 Breakthrough!

Say hello to iRonCub MK3 — a baby-faced humanoid robot that’s just taken its first flight, quite literally. Thanks to four jet thrusters, this little 3-foot-tall, 22-kilo robot has become the first humanoid to achieve vertical liftoff.

Two thrusters are mounted where its arms should be, and two sit in a custom-built jetpack on its back. In a recent test, it hovered 20 inches off the ground — not exactly orbit, but definitely a lift-off worth noting.

Designed by the Italian Institute of Technology, iRonCub isn’t just about flashy flights. This platform could one day be used for search and rescue, helping navigate collapsed buildings or hazardous areas no human can safely reach.

To get here, engineers reinforced the robot’s spine, added heat-resistant panels (after a few too many melted prototypes), and built a smart flight control system to keep it balanced — no upside-down takeoffs, thankfully.

This is just the beginning. A humanoid robot that flies and interacts with the world? It might sound like science fiction, but it’s fast becoming science fact.

World’s First Mirokai Robot Hackathon – AI Meets Innovation at Queen Mary University

This month, in June 2025, Queen Mary University’s School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, in collaboration with RoboHack, hosted a world first: a hackathon featuring the Mirokai robot from Enchanted Tools.

Using the Mirokai simulator—and one of just 20 real Mirokai robots in existence—participants prototyped everything from object description to guided tours and even a robot photoshoot. Yes, the robots were camera-ready.

Powered by advanced AI and a large language model, Mirokai is one of the most innovative humanoids in development—and it showed. Developers used the beta SDK in Python to bring their ideas to life in under 48 hours.

The event reached full capacity a week early, proving there’s serious excitement around this tech. Enchanted Tools gained valuable feedback, and participants walked away inspired—some said it was “a really good time.” Which, in hacker-speak, is pretty high praise.

To get involved in future hackathons, visit robohack.org.uk and join the RoboHack community.

World’s First Remote Robotic Surgery – Doctor in Florida Operates on Patient in Africa!

World’s First Remote Robotic Surgery – Doctor in Florida Operates on Patient in Africa!

What if your surgeon was on another continent during your operation? That’s exactly what happened when Fernando da Silva, a patient in Angola, had his prostate cancer removed by a doctor… in Florida.

Dr. Vipul Patel, based in Orlando, performed the world’s first FDA-approved transcontinental robotic surgery—cutting-edge in every sense. Using a sophisticated robot, Patel controlled the operation remotely, 7,000 miles away, through high-speed fiber optic cables.

This wasn’t a solo act. A full surgical team was in Angola, ready to step in if anything went wrong. But it didn’t. The operation went smoothly—and marked a huge step forward in global healthcare access.

Robotic surgery already offers less invasive procedures and faster recovery. But now? It could mean expert care for patients in even the most remote parts of the world.

As Dr. Patel said, “It was a small step for a surgeon, but a huge leap for healthcare.” And yes—this time, buffering was not an option.

Underwater Robot vs Sabotage – How the Royal Navy is Securing UK Seabeds

Underwater Robot vs Sabotage – How the Royal Navy is Securing UK Seabeds

Protecting the UK’s undersea infrastructure just got a high-tech upgrade. The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory – or Dstl – has teamed up with industry to trial a new underwater robot that could help prevent sabotage to undersea cables and pipelines.

This remotely operated vehicle, or ROV, has been adapted to detect and safely neutralise underwater threats – including legacy unexploded ordnance. It means fewer risks for divers and vessels, and a lot more peace of mind for everyone else.

The robot is equipped with cameras, sensors, and tools that allow operators to identify hazards and place explosive charges to remove them – all from the safety of a ship or shoreline. And unlike a lot of equipment in defence, this one’s reusable – saving both lives and money.

Tested everywhere from Portsmouth to Norway, this Royal Navy-funded project is already proving its value. It’s a smart bit of kit helping protect critical infrastructure and support specialist jobs across the UK.

Safe, efficient, and not afraid to get its feet wet.

  • Inside Gecko Robotics’ $125M Rise | The Robot Unicorn Powering Critical Infrastructure

Inside Gecko Robotics’ $125M Rise | The Robot Unicorn Powering Critical Infrastructure

Gecko Robotics Becomes a $1.25B Unicorn – Robots That Save Warships, Power Plants & Infrastructure

Gecko Robotics has officially hit unicorn status—no, not the mythical creature, but the billion-dollar kind. With a fresh $125 million in Series D funding, the Pittsburgh-based company has doubled its valuation to a cool $1.25 billion.

Not bad for a business that started in a college dorm room.

Gecko builds robots that climb, swim, and fly their way across critical infrastructure—think warships, power plants, and pipelines—gathering high-quality data to keep things running safely and efficiently. Their software platform, Cantilever, takes that data and helps clients prevent disasters, improve performance, and modernize systems.

From working with the U.S. military to teaming up with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Gecko is proving that infrastructure may not be flashy—but it’s definitely important.

While the rest of the tech world is obsessed with AI-generated selfies, Gecko’s using AI to protect the real world. And that, investors like Cox Enterprises and YCombinator agree, is worth backing.

So here’s to Gecko Robotics: one billion-dollar step closer to making the built world a little smarter—and a lot safer.

  • Meta’s V-JEPA 2 – The AI Model That Teaches Robots Using Raw Video (No Human Labels!)

Meta’s V-JEPA 2 – The AI Model That Teaches Robots Using Raw Video (No Human Labels!)

Meta has just unveiled V-JEPA 2, a 1.2-billion-parameter world model that learns from raw video — no extra labels, no human hand-holding. Just pure observation.

It’s built on the Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture, or JEPA, and it’s designed to help robots understand, predict, and plan — even in unfamiliar environments. Basically, it watches the world, figures out how stuff works, and learns to act.

Training happens in two stages. First, it learns from over a million hours of video and images — spotting patterns in how things move and interact. Then, with just 62 hours of robot control data, it learns how to use that understanding to take action.

In testing, it performed well on tasks like pick-and-place, using visual goals to plan actions. For more complex challenges, it breaks things down into subgoals — like a robot with a to-do list.

Success rates ranged from 65% to 80%, even in new settings — a solid performance for a system that’s never seen the environment before.

Meta also released three new benchmarks — IntPhys 2, MVPBench, and CausalVQA — to test physical reasoning, video comprehension, and cause-and-effect.

V-JEPA 2 is available for research and commercial use — and it’s another big step toward real-world robots that can learn more like we do… just with fewer coffee breaks.

Wandercraft & Renault Reveal CALVIN – The Fastest-Built Humanoid Robot Yet?

Wandercraft, the French robotics company known for helping people walk again with advanced exoskeletons, just took a bold step into industrial robotics — meet Calvin, their new humanoid robot, reportedly built in just 40 days. That’s quicker than most of us can assemble flat-pack furniture.

Originally focused on medical mobility, Wandercraft’s tech helped a paraplegic athlete carry the Olympic flame — a powerful symbol of progress. Now, thanks to a new partnership and investment from Renault, they’re expanding into the factory floor.

Calvin is designed to handle repetitive, non-ergonomic tasks, freeing up human workers and boosting productivity. He doesn’t have grasping hands yet — but he can move boxes like a pro.

Meanwhile, Wandercraft’s exoskeletons continue to evolve, with their Atalante X and new Personal Exoskeleton bringing hands-free walking to clinics — and soon, perhaps, your living room.

It’s mobility meets manufacturing — and Wandercraft’s just getting started.
