James Bruton – Insane Robot Wheel

James Bruton is back at it again — and this time, he’s built a robotic wheel that not only drives in any direction but also balances itself… even when you try to push it over.

It’s kind of like a unicycle, if the unicycle didn’t need a rider and was designed by a robotics genius with a 3D printer. Most of the parts are custom-printed, including a cleverly engineered main wheel made up of eight smaller wheels, each with dual tires for smooth omnidirectional motion.

At the heart of it all is a system of gears, pulleys, and idlers — 16 bearings in total — making the transitions ultra-smooth and responsive. The frame? Aluminium extrusion. The brain? A custom control system that automatically adjusts to stay upright and roll back to its original position after being nudged.

James has even added remote control to steer it, and this whole build is actually a warm-up for an even bigger project — a rideable robot with perpendicular omni-wheels. If this is the test run, we can’t wait to see the main act.

Acemate – The World’s First AI Tennis Robot Hits Kickstarter

Tennis just got a high-tech training partner. Introducing Acemate—the world’s first human-like tennis rally robot, launching on Kickstarter this May.

Powered by real-time AI tracking, 4K vision, and omni-directional Mecanum wheels, Acemate doesn’t just fire balls at you—it moves and rallies like a real opponent. Whether you’re training seriously or just looking to hit for fun, Acemate delivers realistic rallies, anytime, anywhere.

Unlike traditional machines that shoot balls at fixed angles, Acemate reads your shots, adjusts in real time, and keeps you on your toes with intelligent returns. It’s like playing someone who never gets tired—or cancels last minute.

Custom drills, performance tracking, and app control mean every session is tailored to your goals. And with a $50 deposit, early backers can unlock up to $980 in savings, free shipping, and a 2-year warranty.

Visit acematetennis.com to learn more. Acemate launches on Kickstarter May 13 at 10 AM EDT. Time to rally smarter.

Robot Chefs Are Here! – ABB x BurgerBots

BurgerBots and ABB Robotics are serving up the future—literally. In Los Gatos, California, the duo has opened a next-gen fast food restaurant where robots prepare your burger with industrial precision.

Using ABB’s IRB 360 FlexPicker and YuMi collaborative robot, each order is assembled in just 27 seconds. That’s faster than most people can decide between fries or salad. The system even monitors ingredient levels in real time, ensuring a smooth kitchen flow and no surprise lettuce shortages.

For restaurant owners, it’s a game changer—automating the repetitive tasks, reducing labor pressure, and letting human staff focus on customer experience rather than counting tomato slices.

In fact, a recent survey showed that nearly two-thirds of hospitality workers are excited about robotics in the workplace—especially if it means less dull and repetitive work.

BurgerBots says this is just the beginning, with plans to scale up for busy venues and on-the-go dining.

So if you’re in Los Gatos, stop by and see how ABB’s robots are flipping burgers—and expectations.
