BlueHalo Wins $30M Deal – Navy Goes Underwater
BlueHalo just secured a $30 million follow-on contract with the U.S. Navy to support its Maritime Expeditionary Standoff Response systems—MESR for short, and “messier” for the competition.
Awarded by the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific, this five-year deal backs the Navy’s ongoing use of the Mission Specialist Defender—an advanced underwater robot designed for high-risk missions, like disarming explosives or, on a calmer day, cleaning fish farm nets. Versatility matters.
This follows the Navy’s $92 million contract with VideoRay last year—who, coincidentally, was acquired by BlueHalo in November. So, yes, this is BlueHalo backing BlueHalo. Efficient.
CEO Jonathan Moneymaker says the deal highlights how adaptable their commercial off-the-shelf solutions are for Navy operations. And when your robot can dive 1,000 meters deep with seven thrusters and modular payloads, it’s not hard to see the appeal.
Founded in 2019, BlueHalo continues to expand in space tech, AI, and uncrewed systems—and with a $4.1 billion acquisition by AeroVironment on the horizon, it looks like they’re just getting started.
